This number represents total TCP/IP sockets currently connected to the IMAP server. Note that a single IMAP client, such as Outlook or Thunderbird, could open multiple sockets. Therefore, this number is usually higher than the total number of connected clients.

You can check IMAPConversation.log to see who is connected.
